STEPS
To Enable a disabled port:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate, and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor
4. In the right pane, double-click Start.
5. In the Value data box, type 3, click Hexadecimal (if it is not already selected), and then click OK.
6. Quit Registry Editor.
To Disable the access to USB port, in windows XP and 2000
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate, and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor
4. In the right pane, double-click Start.
5. In the Value data box, type 4, click Hexadecimal (if it is not already selected), and then click OK.
6. Quit Registry Editor.

I have a question, my USB ports doesn’t work.
I saw this page, so I tried to enable the USB ports but I couldn’t find the registry key UsbStor in the path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
I tried formating the HDD and installing windows but it doesn’t work
what can I do??
it could be a virus??

But I can’t login to regestry it cause locked by IT.

I have done the following procedure in Windows XP, my device is detecting a new hardware but asks for setup as it was when disabled. Kindly tell me how to enable it.
I am studying in a institute and they disable the usb i want to turn it on and the method above u describe is not working ,is there any other way.
